History of Sound Art

This session offers a fascinating survey of the history of sound art. It is an auditory journey that at times may challenge your ears but is certain to open your mind. It begins at the start of the 20th c. with Italian Futurist Luigi Russolo's "Art of Noises' and takes us through sound art in Dadism, Concrete Music, Conceptualism, Fluxus and so on, up until the first decades of the 21st century. We look at the ways in which sound recording and technology have been largely responsible for making sound art possible.

Sound & Science

This enthralling session introduces you to sound phenomena like acoustic levitation, sonoluminescence, and echolocution (among other fascinating subjects). Cymatics is also introduced, an esoteric science that deals with sound made visible - You will learn the history of Cymatics and come to grasp how Cymatics might be considered science, art and mysticism simultaneously.

Sound in Medicine & Healing

This session first looks at ways that Sound is used in Western medicine and also looks at applications on the horizon that use Sound with new technologies for medical purposes. Then the class looks at Sound Healing from a more "soft science", spiritual perspective. We explore toning (using the human voice for healing), acutonics (using tuning forks on meridian points) and vibrational sound therapy which places Tibetan bowls directly on the body.
